Description
There are several versions of the origin of Queen Liliuokalani's famous song "Aloha Oe" but they all start with a farewell embrace and, according to Theodore Kelsey in a 1927 Paradise of the Pacific Magazine article, "This tender farewell set Lili'uokalani to thinking, and she began humming to herself on the homeward trip. Overhearing, Charles Wilson observed, "That sounds like The Lone Rock by the Sea," a comment with which Liliʻuokalani is said to have agreed. When the party paused to rest in an orange grove on the Honolulu side of the Pali, the others joined in the hummings, and the song was completed later at Washington Place."
This is a wonderful piece of vintage sheet music with chords for ukelele, guitar and special Hawaiian guitar chorus. "Aloha Oe (Hawaiian Farewell Song by Queen Lydia Liluokalni {sic}, the last monarch of the Kingdom of Hawaii) published by Calumet Music Co. in Chicago, dated 1940.
