This striking, limited edition, signed, giclee on canvas is by David "Kawika" Gallegos. He is known for his "pyrographic" (woodburned) oil paintings on beautiful Hawaiian woods. The original of this one is on Ohia-a rare wood found only on the Hawaiian Islands and nowhere else in the world. It is entitled "Torchlight Fisherman" and measures 30" x 22" x 1".
About the artist: After winning full tuition scholarships in painting and drawing, David Maes “Kawika” Gallegos received his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with High Distinction from California College of Arts and Crafts in 1974. In 1977 David Gallegos received his Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting and Printmaking from the University of California – San Francisco. In the San Francisco Bay area from 1978 to 1990 David had numerous one person and group Museum exhibitions. During this time he worked with the Famous Lithographer, Ernest De Soto.
He moved to Hawaii full time in 1997. David’s Art has been featured in Architectural Digest, Art in America, Art Week, Smithsonian, Art Forum (With Ernest DeSoto) and the Encyclopedia of Important American Artists. He is displayed in a number of prominent Museums and Galleries including The Richmond and Redding Art Museums, the SFMOMA Museum Gallery, the Mexican Museum in San Francisco and Volcano Art Center in Hawaii. David Gallegos’ artworks hang in a great number of private and corporate collections internationally; and he is in constant demand for private and corporate commissions worldwide. His recent corporate commissions were for GOOGLE, Constellation Corp., The UB Group – London, U.K., and numerous Hollywood celebrities.
