Description
Made in England. The pieces in this set correspond to two limited series of the traditional and famous brand of Wedgwood porcelain. Made mostly in decorative pieces, one of its landmarks, and also a technique patented by the English house. Durable and opaque, usually blue with figures in white cameos inspired by the ancient Roman vases, with designs, mostly by the British artist John Flaxman. With an extensive family history tied to pottery, Josiah Wedgwood investigated and developed new ways of working, using this material, glass and pigments, to get unique pieces. He also discovered that raw pottery could be effectively colored with oxides to mimic precious stones like agate, granite, or fluorite. In 1768 he teamed up with the Liverpool merchant Thomas Bentley to manufacture neoclassical decorative objects with this colored pottery. The ones we see here are the result of a process patented in 1772 in which after molding the centerpiece and coloring it, bas-reliefs are added in white porcelain. The ornaments are applied by hand to the moistened surface.
This set includes: A 4" Wedgwood trinket box, a Wedgewood flower pot vase (5 1/4 Tall, 6 1/4 diameter at top), and a Small Wedgwood Blue & White Jasperware Star Of David decorative plate (Measures 4.5"Dia x .5"T). These lovely pieces, depict the traditional scenes of Mythology and are in the traditional light blue jasperware.
