Biography
Born and raised in So. Oklahoma, moved to Dallas, Texas after graduating from Southeastern Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in fine arts
and graphic design. She was determined to make her mark in the commercial art world, however as with most, rent and life took over and art was only in the background. She moved to Irving, Texas in 1978 and the next 20 years, her art remained on the sideline, but her focus moved towards fine art and subjects were wildlife and pets, which led her to the obvious subject of Pet Portraits.
Participating in Local, State and National shows, she has won numerous awards with her wildlife and Pet Portraits and many works are in private and corporate collections. This was all achieved while still holding a full time career in the corporate world.. Beverly, who has a rare genetic disorder, became totally disabled and wheelchair bound in 1998. Beverly states ' This has been God's blessing to me.'
Now Beverly's focus and passion are animals, pet and wildlife. Her medium has been mainly colored pencil and pastel, although she isn't limited to it. She is very active in the arts and helping animals discarded get a 2nd chance to share their unconditional love. She does pet portraits by the same name and shares part of the proceeds to local animal shelter, as well as help start a nationally juried art competition of the same name through her local art association, where artists are also encouraged to donate a piece for auction to benefit the animals at the shelter as well.
Beverly and her partner Otis (her service dog), work to educate people on service dog etiquette and help bring awareness to businesses and people regarding mobility issues for those in electric wheelchairs and serves on her city's disability advisory committee helping to make it barrier free. Along this venue, Beverly did a pet portrait of Otis holding a paint brush, one of his many jobs is to retrieve dropped objects. This piece was entered and won the Texas 2010 National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) poster competition. The contest is every October and after winning, this piece is now permanently displayed at the State capital in Austin. It helped stimulate some ADA roundtable discussions at the state level and hopes it partially helped in the updated federal service animal laws. She just won the Texas NDEAM 2012 Competition, which her piece In the Pink will be part the Texas Disability Employment Awareness Poster, which will go out to over 2500 businesses on on billboards throughout the state.
