Description
Sculpture is made of Yellowheart and Bloodwood. These are hardwoods from South America. These materials are sustainable and come from managed forests. The sculpture is 9 inches long and 3 inches high. The process of making it is called “segmenting woodturning.” The rough form is manufactured from individually cut pieces which are assembled and glued. This is in contrast to traditional woodturning where the artist starts with a large piece of wood and removes wood until the desired shape is complete. It is turned and finished on a lathe. The artist is Wayne Miller. He has been doing this kind of sculpture in both wood and acrylic for over ten years. His work is not sold in galleries. It is often gifted to friends and donated to charity for auction purposes. The artist considers this a work of art. Although it is in the form of a utilitarian object and one could actually use it, the artist suggests that you enjoy it as art and simply display it.
