Brandon Ingram was selected by the LA Lakers with the second overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft. Being 18 years old at the time, he was the second youngest player drafted in 2016. On August 23, 2016, he signed his rookie scale contract with the Lakers. He made his debut for the Lakers in their season opener on October 26, scoring nine points off the bench in a 120–114 win over the Houston Rockets.
