Description
This Gift Certificate is good for one student to attend either the Thunder or Lightning Clinic, June 18-22, 2018.
Empower Me Training is a nonprofit business whose goal is to drive all younger student athletes to excel in and out the classroom. They are committed to excellence in sports as part of a larger commitment to education and to the physical and emotional well-being and to the social development of the whole person. They plan to empower younger student-athletes by providing resources that will help improve their fundamental academic skills. Some of these academic skills are as follows:
- Reading: It is important to understand that reading is not just text. One can read a painting, a piece of art, a skyline, and even people. Reading requires observation and enhances one’s understanding of the world.
- Writing: How one expresses him/herself through writing is one of the key skills for students and professionals.
- Testing: How do people succeed in tests? They learn how to take tests. This is a skill that can help open doors and will help student-athletes learn how to learn. (This includes note taking, memorization, and asking for help)
- Reflecting: Making meaning of what you have just learned is crucial. Incorporating concepts in the classroom into one’s life helps make the concepts real and meaningful.
- Presence: Being the classroom is more than just taking notes, it’s about how you present yourself as a student: preparedness, responding to questions, asking questions, teaching others.
- Speaking: Public speaking is an important skill that can be taught – being able to present yourself through public speaking impacts how others see you and respond to you.
Each one of these skills can translate into Athletics. Their mission is ultimately “to EDUCATE the mind, to EMPOWER the soul, and EVOLVE the best strength of all who are associated with their Program.”
