Edith Deen was a nenowned and beloved Christian author, leading citizen and wife of former Fort Worth mayor Edgar Deen.

On November 22, 1963 she attended a "Breakfast with President and Mrs. John F. Kennedy" at the Grand Ballroom - Hotel Texas, sponsored by The Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce.  Her ticket number for the 8 a.m. breakfast was No. 142 and cost $3.00

On the back of her card to breakfast, she wrote, "Used by Edith Deen and returned by Committee at my request later. Our beloved President was assassinated in Dallas less than three hours after this was concluded."

Upon her request to the White House, she received a card in the The White House envelope (dated Dec. 10, 1963) along with her breakfast card from Lyndon B. Johnson.

"Mrs. Johnson and I acknowledge with deep appreciation your thoughtful expression of personal interest and confidence during the hours of sorrow after the death of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy.  We will cherish your prayers and support in the days ahead."  At the bottom of the card is President Johnson's signature and "The White House, November 1963."
