Item Number: 532
Time Left: CLOSED
Description
30 minute consultation
Imagine walking across a tight-rope, juggling balls and trying to maintain balance. Special education advocacy, for most parents, is a similar process: juggling state and federal laws, interpreting education assessments, recommending curriculum and instructional resources, and negotiating one of the most important documents you will ever deal with as a parent. Then, imagine trying to monitor your own emotions at the same time and keep it all in balance. A parent advocate is there to help guide and understand the process.
Eileen Swan has served as a parent advocate in the state of Connecticut and attorney in both NY and Massachusetts. Eileen has been an attorney for 18 years and served as prosecutor in the Bronx. She also served as the Deputy Director of a legal services organization in Westchester NY where she handled both family law and domestic violence cases. After leaving that position she worked for the Governor of NY in the Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence. In addition to her JD Eileen holds a MS Ed in Education and a BS in Criminal Justice.
