Description
A fabulous original photograph mounted on stiff backed canvas, and ready to hang.
Measures 16" x 20".
Heather is a very talented local wildlife photographer who has been to photograph the breeding colony several times.
Breeding in only a few large colonies along the North Atlantic, the Northern Gannet spends most of its life at sea. Flocks engage in spectacular bouts of plunge-diving for fish, with hundreds of birds diving into the ocean from heights of up to 40 meters (130 feet). With a spear-like bill and spiky tail, it looks like just like an arrow.
"Bonaventure Island, Quebec is one of the largest nesting colonies and it is there that I took this photograph. It was an awesome experience to see over fifty thousand pairs of these beautiful seabirds and their newborn chicks. Large concentrations of adult birds can often be seen off the New England coast during the winter months."
