Description

A winning prize for Italian wine connoiseurs:

#1 One bottle of Castelli del Grevepesa Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Panzano, 2011

Many critics score this Chianti Classico wine highly: Wine Enthusiast gave the 2011 vintage a score of 94. "Made entirely with Sangiovese, this offers aromas of forest floor, tilled soil, violet, woodland berry and a whiff of leather. The structured but elegant palate doles out juicy black cherry, licorice, tobacco and ground pepper alongside velvety tannins. It's already delicious but hold for more complexity. Drink 2016–2026." (Wine Enthusiast)

#2 One bottle of Cantina Valpolicella Negrar Gran Signoria Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore, 2014

Valpolicella is the most famous red wine to come out of the Veneto wine region in northeastern Italy (Bardolino is the only other contender). The defining character of all quality Valpolicella is its fragrant, tangy cherry aroma, a quality which is carried through into this Ripasso wine. Valpolicella is a perfect pairing for red meat, duck, and cheese, especially Tallegio.

#3 One bottle of Peter Wachtler Taschlerhof Sudtirol Eisacktaler Riesling, 2014

Due to the close proximity of this wine's growing region to the Austrian border, the Italian 'Valle Isarco' name can be replaced by its German-language equivalents Eisacktal or Eisacktaler on labels. The unique, distinctively mineral white wines of the Taschlerhof stand out for their strong character, fruity bouquet and long-lasting taste. This straw-yellow white wine with a light green shimmer and fine aromas of peach and pear is perfect for pairing with starters, white meat and fish.
