Description
The Superior Hiking Trail is a footpath that mostly follows the rocky ridgeline above Lake Superior. Construction of the Superior Hiking Trail began in the mid-1980s, and the trail now extends 313 miles (504 km) from Duluth to the Canadian border, 17 miles (27 km) of which are spur trails to the main trail. There are trailhead parking lots every 5-10 miles, making the trail ideal for both day hikes and backpack camping.
The Superior Hiking Trail Association (SHTA) was formed in 1986 to manage the construction, planning, and maintenance of the trail. Membership benefits include:
- Free set of trail maps
- The Ridgeline quarterly newsletter
- 10% discount on all products in the retail and online stores
