Description
Beautiful, one-of-a-kind bowl hand-carved by 2011 North House Folk School Intern Mike Loeffler. Painted in the design of a nuthatch with natural milkpaints, this beautiful wooden bowl is made from a blank piece of wood, then shaped using hand tools. Dimensions are 6"x3.5"x1.75".
Mike is inspired by Scandinavian fagelskalar or bird bowls. In their traditional use, these bowls were ceremonial drinking vessels delivering spirits to thirsty mouths in times of celebration. But their meaning extends beyond their functional role as a vessel for liquid. They were reflections of regional aesthetics, personal abilities, and the natural materials available to the maker. These objects carry a story of people in forested landscapes.
