Cowboys, Cowgirls, & Cowchips is a collection of snippets, accounts, & anecdotes, compiled by author Doris McClellan, based on her 31 years of life on the Ellwood Spade Ranch, recreate the world of the ranch and the range in the latter half of the twentieth century. The stories testify to the hard realities that fill the everyday lives of Cowboys and Cowgirls - and to the tough practicality, resourcefulness, intelligence, and brilliant good humor with which they stare down any challenge. 

Author Doris McClellan earned the Bachelor of Science degree from Sul Ross State University and the Master of Education at Hardin-Simmons University, in preparation for her career as an elementary teacher and counselor. She is a student and observer of plant and animal life in West Texas and the Trans-Pecos region. Doris McClellan is a resident of Sterling City, Texas. Her inspiration and knowledge of nature reflected in her stories is taken from her personal experiences while living on the Ellwood Spade ranch. Her stories both entertain and educate.
