Description
On Sunday, October 18, 2015, the
SF Arts Commission Galleries hosted it’s signature event in Japantown called PASSPORT. For this 2015 event, 15 emerging and established artists were invited into neighborhood venues throughout Japantown ~ places like Kinokuniya Bookstore, Aloha Warehouse, the JCCCNC, Paper Tree, Tokaido Arts, Katachi, and Mashie Folkcraft. Hundreds of do-it-yourself art collectors, passports in hand, followed a designated route throughout Japantown visiting these artists and collecting original, artist-designed stamps which they placed in their passports, creating their very own limited-edition artist’s book. And they got to discover the many wonderful and interesting small businesses that can only be found in Japantown!
That year, fifteen emerging and established artists participated including: Kathy Aoki, Takehito Etani, Rodney Ewing, Kota Ezawa, Renée Gertler, Taro Hattori, Jun Kaneko, Ma Li, Vicky Mihara Avery & Linda Mihara (Paper Tree), Masako Miki, Robert Minervini, Sandra Ono, Hadi Tabatabai, Tina Takemoto, Taravat Talepasand, and a stamp by Ruth Asawa, courtesy of The Estate of Ruth Asawa.
A rare find from this historical event, this PASSPORT artists’ book contains stamps from all of these artists and would be a great addition to your art collection!
