Description
Mikami Vineyards has been producing hand-crafted wines in the San Joaquin Valley since 1902. Today, Mikami, a 3rd Party Certified Sustainable Winegrower, continues to produce premium Zinfandel and Rose wines using viticulture practices that are environmentally sound, responsible, and sustainable.
"Since 1896, when the first generation of the family emigrated from Japan to California, the Mikami family has produced premium wine grapes. With three generations of experience, Mikami Vineyards’ extensive knowledge of the soil and climate of the Lodi appellation has translated into the production of exceptional quality wine.
The grape growing tradition of the Mikami family has been interrupted only once – during World War II when the family was relocated into internment camps in Rowher, Arkansas. In 1945, the family returned to Lodi with a renewed passion for grape farming and continued to be a part of the wine business, supplying premium grapes to various California wineries." For this year’s auction, Mikami Vineyards offers this exceptional lot of 6 bottles of 2014 Mikami Vineyards Zinfandel that was recognized by the Wine Enthusiast in July 2014 as a “trailblazer” in artisan winemaking. A must-have addition to any wine collector’s cellar, Mikami Vineyards will be pouring this special wine at this year’s JCCCNC’s Tabemasho annual fundraising event on September 16, 2017!
Vintage Details: This 2014 Zinfandel is limited to 180 cases, each bottle hand-numbered. Zinfandel (97%) Petite Sirah (3%); harvested September 12, 2014; oak aged 18 months (30% new French); alcohol 14.8%.
Tasting notes: Medium, deep red color with a ruby garnet hue. Well-balance wine exhibits ripe aromas of dried and juicy red currants with the classic Zinfandel brambly notes that are a hallmark of this Lodi vineyard. Shows a nice balance between fruit flavors, acidity and subtle tannins that linger with the red cherry fruit finish.
