Vintage Kotatsu with ceramic warmer
The craftsmanship in this piece is no longer being done in Japan. This kotatsu (warmer) was used to keep an individual warm through the winter. Putting a heated piece of wood in the ceramic dome, the warmth would penitrate the ceramic, and a futon (heavy blanket) would cover the wood unit (without glass) and the individual.
