SMILODON:

More famously known as the “Sabertooth Tiger”, the Smilodon was in actuality not a tiger, but a group of extinct feline known as Machairodonts. It would have been a constant threat to early humans roaming around 10,000 years ago, but also would have hunted bison and woolly mammoths in North America and giant sloths in South America.

Many complete Smilodon skeletons have been found preserved in the Los Angeles area La Brea Tar Pits, and has the honor of being California’s official state fossil!
