Description
Town Public Bar – Isle of Harris
Robert McDonald Jr. Graham (1919-2003) Born in New Rochelle, New York, he studied at the Kansas City Art Institute with Thomas Hart Benton. He served as a combat artist during World War II and after the war was influenced by the Belgian painter, Jules van Vlasselaer. From that time he did little Regionalist work in the style of Benton, meaning that those paintings by Graham are rare but are also considered the most desirable. He was an art instructor at the University of Texas in Austin from 1951 to 1955 and from 1958 to 1975, taught at the University of Missouri at Kansas City. Below is graphic sketch on paper signed in the lower middle of sketch, “To Barb Edmonson from Bob.” Also signed directly below that inscription is the artist’s signature, “Robert McDonald Graham. ” In the lower left corner of the sketch is the date, “10/29/83” and the inscription, “Town Public Bar 23 Sept 76.” Below that is the location inscription, “Isle of Harris.” 8” x 10.25”
