Authentic Australian Boy Scout Campaign Hat, size 7 ΒΌ.


Traditionally called a "lemon squeezer" (Smokey the Bear style), this particular hat was traded for by C. Mark Smith, president of the Mount Rainier Council (Greater Tacoma), Boy Scouts of America, at the 1983 Boy Scout World Jamboree at Kananaskis, Alberta. These unique hats were issued only to South African scouts and their leaders attending world jamborees.


The springbok, a species of small gazelle or antelope native to South Africa, features a unique light colored tuft of hair that grows on the animal's back behind at the base of its neck. The springbok is the national symbol of South Africa. It has been adopted as the nickname or mascot by of number of  South African sports teas, most famously the national rugby team. It has appeared on the emblems of the South African Air Force, the logo of South African Airways, and the Coat of Arms of South Africa.
