Jim Kastner said of this photo in 2017 "It might interest you to know that the location where this picture was taken has changed a lot as well. That beach was covered with many yards thick with new lava flows some years ago, and exists now only in our memories. In that way the image, although abstract, has historical value, as an image from Kalapana Beach that is no more."
