Description
This photograph shows a puka, or a hole, on the inside of the butterhouse at a Kealapuali dairy site in the land of Kaumalumalu. At an elevation of 4,600 feet, this puka and trap door lead to an underground cistern used to store kegs of butter suspended in cold water for preservation. Photograph by Sheree Chase in 1993.
This photograph on canvas appeared in Kona Historical Society's 2016 exhibit, Kona Ranching and Kona Cowboys. Dimensions are 11"x16".
