Description

Kona Nightingales were a vital part of the economy not only of early ranching, but of commercial development in Kona in general. Loaded donkeys like this one could haul anywhere from 100 to 400 pounds at a time, c. 1950.

This pair of saddle packs in the photograph are displayed here.  The box-style pack is made of wood and covered with leather and canvas, and re-inforced with metal rivets.

This photograph on canvas appeared in Kona Historical Society's 2016 exhibit, Kona Ranching and Kona Cowboys. Dimensions are 14"x14".
