Excerpt from foreword: "Among Hawaii's historic figures in the field of Music and the Arts must be included our first nationally acclaimed native Hawaiian Opera Star — Tandy MacKenzie. It was in 1927, in my childhood, at the time of the Restoration and Rededication of Kawaiahao Church, that he returned home from his artistic triumphs to sing praises and give thanks to God with his people for their House of The Lord. I remember the sense of hush and great pride as his name came upon the life of my parents and grandparents, and upon the streets of Honolulu."
