This book is number 87 of a limited edition of 5,000 copies from the Hawaiian Bicentennial Library. Copyright 1976. It is signed by the author.
Excerpt from the book: "No other Hawaiian island is quite like this one. Nana'i, the old ones called it half a century ago for Kenneth Emory. 'Ranai,' Cook's lieutenant wrote of its sighting in his log. Lana'i. The glottal, that catch of sound, no sound like a missing syllable, has disappeared from all but a few tongues. Lanai, now, named for what it is. A gentle swelling above the ocean's surface. A hump of land."
