Framed black and white photograph of a Westclox clock (model: Big Ben) by photographer Bill Rauhauser. Detroit-based 20th c. 1" metal grey steel frame with black matte. Signed on back. Dimensions: approx. 18" L x 23" W (with frame); approx. 14" L x 18" W (without frame).
Bill Rauhauser found his calling behind the lens of a camera. What started as a hobby for the Detroit street photographer became a lifelong passion that brought Rauhauser into focus as a unique talent, educator and advocate for photography as a respected art form.
His work as been exhibited at the MOMA, featured in multiple publications and are in the collection of the Detroit Institute of Arts as well as in numerous public and private collections. In 2014, he was awarded the Kresge Foundation's prestigious Eminent Artist Award. He is also listed in the Archives of American Art at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C.
"Over the years I've just walked around Detroit keeping an eye open waiting for something to happen, something significant," he said, "and I love every minute of it."
