The Alexander technique was developed by Frederick Alexander (1869-1955), a Shakespearian actor, to combat the voice strain he experienced with unamplified performances.
Realizing that if he retrained his posture and used better body mechanics, he could project better and with less strain, Alexander taught a set of principles that ultimately became the Alexander technique.
Thought also to have benefit to asthmatics and those with chronic back pain, Alexander technique is often taught to public speaker, actors and singers.
