Description
Two Prime I tickets to the March 24 American Classical Orchestra concert at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall. Concert preview begins at 7:30pm, concert begins at 8:00pm.
Join ACO for a return engagement of contralto Avery Amereau in a program of bright light and visible darkness.
Contralto Avery Amereau takes center stage with ACO Men’s Chorus in a performance of Brahms’ masterpiece Alto Rhapsody. The stirring Schubert ‘Unfinished’ Symphony No. 8 balances the program alongside his ravishing Gesange der Geister for male chorus and low strings. For contrast, we add a more ephemeral symphony by little-known composer Ferdinand Ries, a student of Beethoven in Bonn. The common thread that unites these works is the exploration of darkness and light through poetry, the varied textures of the human voice, and the sublime blend of the period instrument orchestra.
This season, the American Classical Orchestra is launching an innovative Concert Preview program that will bring listeners closer to the music. Thirty minutes before each concert, Conductor Thomas Crawford and the full orchestra will take the stage, with Crawford talking about the works on the program and the musicians performing excerpts. Crawford’s engaging narratives, along with the live music, will give the audience greater insights into what they’re about to hear, resulting in a more enriched musical experience.
