Using only chisels and mallets on American hardwood, the artist has rendered a folk carving of Saint Nicholas seventeen inches high and about 3.5 inches in diameter.  St. Nick has a long red robe with green, cream, and gold accent stars and holly on his robe.  His long beard and staff proclaim his status as saint, rather than jolly elf, and he would be a distinguished guest at anyone's Christmas festivities.
