It’s amazing how much you can learn in just a few hours working at the Farm! With these four tickets, you and your family and/or friends can set up a Volunteer Day to take part in farm-related tasks, tour, and learn about The Talking Farm, an urban farm located in Skokie. Volunteer days are a great chance to immerse oneself in nature and build our food community. It’s like taking a condensed class in horticulture, history, and sustainability. Tools, gloves, and water (but bring a water bottle) are provided to you. Dress for the weather in casual clothes and closed toe footwear. Volunteers sign a waiver form, and volunteers under the age of 18 must have the waiver signed by a parent or guardian. **Winner will arrange their chosen date and time for the Volunteer Day with The Talking Farm.

The Talking Farm is using the land to grow fresh produce applying sustainable agricultural practices such as crop rotation, companion planting, mulching, natural biocides, and non-petroleum-based fertilizers. It’s also where we will offer classes in growing, preserving, and enjoying local foods; and to conduct research relevant to urban farming.

Produce from the Farm is available to local restaurants, farmers’ markets, schools, food pantries, and individuals.
