Description
Kalandar scarf utilizing a traditional tie and dye technique. Here is a little bit about the craft… Our “Tie and Dye” crafts unit specializes in making colourful dupattas (scarves). This local art is called “bandini.” Tie and dye is a process of hand-dyeing fabric, thereby producing a variegated pattern. All our products are made with eco-friendly vegetable dyes that are less toxic than their synthetic counterparts. The process of tie-dye typically consists of folding, twisting, pleating, or crumpling fabric or a garment and binding with string or rubber bands, followed by application of dye(s).
Due to the wide variety of color, we are unable to offer a particular to color to each buyer. Therefore, there is a ‘surprise factor’ when purchasing this item.
These are hand-dyed by the Kalandar women. The Kalandar people used to 'dance bears' in order to provide for their families. In partnership with Wildlife SOS, they have learned new vocations and skills that do not involve exploiting wildlife. Additionally, Wildlife SOS provides an education fund for their children, thus eradicating the dancing bear practice forever.
Purchasing these items will help India to stay 'dancing bear' free.
