Laxmi was a begging elephant rescued by Wildlife SOS in 2013. She was severely obese, having survived on fried street food given to her by tourists. Struggling to stand, let alone walk, it was blatantly obvious that there was no way she was going to be able to walk up the ramp and into the truck. So, Wildlife SOS arranged for a crane to lift her. Under their care, Laxmi has lost weight and has learned to walk and play again. Her nickname at the sanctuary is “Our Little Dumpling.” She is a 20-year-old, playful pachyderm and her health is improving. She absolutely loves green fodder and enjoys a variety of fruits. Bijli and Phoolkali are her best friends and she loves playing with them in the open pool.

From the artist Emma Bowring:

"The natural world is an amazing thing. From the humble bee and its role in pollination, to the fact that every time an African elephant takes a step, it creates a home for other animals; as its footprint fills with water. Every living thing has a purpose, it exists for a reason, has a role to play and contributes in some way to making the world a beautiful place ... unfortunately with one exception - modern man. By painting wildlife and nature, it's as if I become a part of that beautiful world, and by contributing funds from each of my paintings to animal welfare and conservation charities; I hope to undo a little of the damage done by humanity."
