Description

The winner of this gift certificate will receive a $400 credit to apply towards an original commissioned painting by San Francisco based artist, Philip Andrew Hall. This is a chance to work with the artist on a custom piece of artwork (painting). You will get to select the size of the piece and overall subject matter.* All his paintings are acrylic on stretched primed canvases and mounted on wood framing. For a sense of overall cost, his artwork is priced at $0.50/sq in, with an additional shipping for non-Bay Area residents (within 2-hours drive of San Francisco), which usually comes to around $0.17/sq in if being shipped domestically in the US.

*Artist retains artistic license throughout this process and will make the final decisions on the overall deliverable.

Artist bio: Born and raised in Southern Ca, Philip Andrew Hall has been painting since he was eight years old. Whether he was working in the film industry, renewable energy field or more recently as a food and travel writer, painting has always been a part of his life.

Two distinct styles and forms of artistic expression have developed over the years, and together represent his own internal dichotomy between creativity and analytics.

His "creative" style is all about the limitless free flowing movement of color. These pieces all begin with primary colors (red, blue, yellow) and he lays them down on the canvas in a single sitting, mixing as he goes without cleaning the brush, racing against time because acrylics dry much faster than oils. Then he goes back and defines the image with black and white accents. These pieces work really well in children's rooms, nurseries, or for a splash of jaw-dropping color on a relatively subdued contemporary palette.

His "analytical" style is almost the antithesis to the creative in that it's exact, precise and full of boundaries. Think of these as a modern riff on Piet Mondrian works from the early 20th century. Philip uses pops of color to create 3-D geometric abstract metropolitan landscapes. These are great for a slightly more modern decor.
