Piazza Santo Spirito is on the south side of the river in Oltrarno and is one of Florence’s few tree lined squares. In the middle is Brunelleschi`s Renaissance church that faces the square. Some of the most appealing features of Piazza Santo Spirito are the daily food and clothing market, open-air restaurants and numerous coffee shops. The piazza hosts many events and concerts during the year. It is approximately a 5-minute walk to the Pitti Palace, Boboli gardens and a few minutes more to Piazza della Signoria on the north side of the river.
