2012 Pech Merle Zinfandel. Alluring aromas of blackberry-plum cola and bountiful flavors of spicy berried syrup have tenderly nurtured this blend of Zinfandel and Petite Sirah into much more than a lustful liaison. My ripe, warm, balanced finish will linger on to remind you that slow and steady wins much more than just the race. Tart cherry and high-toned acidity give this wine a tanginess around structured, well-heeled tannins. On the palate dense red and blue fruits combine to juicy effect, offering flavor without an overabundance of power. 2012 Sterling Vineyards. A classic Zinfandel, the bold exuberant character of this wine virtually reaches out of the glass and grabs you. Brambly blackberry, boysenberry and raspberry aromas hold together the intensive caramel and chocolate high notes that entice the senses. On the tongue, flavors of berry pie, toasty vanilla and brown spices explode in a full, fleshy mouth that lingers on the tongue for a nice long finish. 2013 Bella Vineyards. The Sonoma County zinfandel entices with a floral bouquet of violets and rose petals. The palate continues with anise and pretty red fruit, a silky texture and smooth, soft finish. This wine is approachable and fun, yet structured and deep.
