Two Bottles Grgich Hills Parks Tasting Chardonnay, Two Bottles Violetta
2011 Grgich Hills Estate Paris Tasting Chardonnay, Napa Valley: Mike Grgich gained international recognition at the celebrated "Paris Tasting" of 1976 in which a panel of eminent French judges tasted an array of the fabled white Burgundies of France and a small sampling of upstart Chardonnays from the Napa Valley. When the results were in, the French judges were shocked: they had chosen Mike’s 1973 Montelena Chardonnay as the finest white wine in the world. The results immediately earned Mike Grgich a reputation as one of the greatest winemakers in the world. The 2011 Paris tasting wine is an elegant, full-bodied Chardonnay with notes of fresh apple tart, honeysuckle and tropical fruit.
2009 and 2013 Violetta, Napa Valley Late Harvest (375ml bottles)
The 2013 is a beautiful botrytised wine, made from a field blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Gewürztraminer. Light on its feet and reined-in in terms of sweetness, it has a touch of reduction, allowing the Riesling nose to dominate. Decadent yet restrained, it's also lengthy and complex, with highlights of orange and pear.
