Description

Three-course dinner for two with wine pairings at acclaimed new restaurant Frenchette, founded by Chef duo Riad Nasr and Lee Hanson.

Frenchette (241 West Broadway between White and Walker streets) is an idealized vision of a French bistro that calls to mind a McNally restaurant, offering expertly-prepared traditional French cuisine. The menu leans heavily on the founders' training in traditional French cooking and their experience at Balthazar, Minetta Tavern, Pastis and Schiller’s Liquor Bar.

They engage several local farms, not just for produce but also for meat and poultry, nose-to-tail. The menu has dishes like rotisserie lobster and a creamy soft-scrambled egg topped with escargot in garlic butter. Though the chefs have been known for their meat dishes — see: the Minetta Tavern Black Label burger — here, they wanted to “celebrate vegetables” as well, with dishes that go beyond steakhouse sides like string beans and mashed potatoes, they say. One option involves charred carrots, za’atar, and labneh.

The wine director, Jorge Riera, has put together a list of vintages that is entirely, uncompromisingly, focused on natural wines, a controversial genre in which the grapes are farmed organically at the least, and the wine produced with minimal artifice or manipulation.
