Description

12 bottles of Page Mill Winery 2016 Chardonnay from the Chandler Vineyard in Livermore.

Winewakers Notes:

“The Chardonnay that comes from the West end of the Livermore Valley possesses a unique focus of character within the appellation. While being in a warmer climate, the west end is separated by a double, low lying ridge line and warms the most slowly during the growing season. The sloping, rolling hills of the Kalthoff common provide small microclimates that are ideal for drainage and retaining the cool air that prolongs the growing season. This vineyard shows great potential for producing well structured, complex Chardonnays. The 2014 vintage was an early growing debut culminating in an even, dry fall. It was a challenging vintage with the drought conditions testing vine balance but ultimately culminating in developed flavors and balance.”
Dane Stark, winemaker

Tasting Notes:
The barrel fermentation of 25% of this Chardonnay adds complexity while the 75% that is fermented in stainless steel under temperature control provides freshness and structure. It has opening notes of butter, lemon, fruit and honey suckle with a creamy aroma but understated oak. It has a lovely, golden straw color. The palate entry is of floral components with ripe fruit in the California style and a dry yet structured mid palate. There is honey and almond in the finish with lingering cream and a subtle kiss of American Oak.
