Description
Lifetime Adoption of Sekai, a 7-metre [23'] male whale shark tagged off East Africa
Sekai was 4.5 metres in length when he was tagged, but by 2015, he was 7 metres in length. He is most often seen cruising along the surface, and a while back sustained abrasions, most likely from a boat, but apparently recovered.
Sekai’s guardian will receive an 8"x10" photograph of him, a certificate of adoption (with their name, Sekai’s name, tag number, when and where he was tagged and the name of the tagger), and a Fact Sheet about whale sharks.
Each time Sekai is seen again, his guardian will be notified when and where the sighting occurred. This is a lifetime adoption and no annual renewal is needed.
Special Instructions
- The Shark Research Institute began tagging whale sharks in 1993 and few of them are available for adoption.
- Although there is no guarantee that Sekai will be seen again (he is a wild animal), all of the whale sharks up for adoption in this auction have been re-sighted in the past year.
- The objective of this auction is to spotlight individuals and organizations working effectively for ocean conservation, and raise funds for field research, education and conservation projects.
- The winning bid is deductible from US Federal 2018 income taxes as a Charitable Donation. A tax receipt will be issued to the winning bidder.
