Award winner Vivian Howard from Kinston, NC has authored her own cookbook, Deep Run Roots that also tells a story about her life and the reason for leaving New York and returning to her home town to open her first restaurant. As a trained chef she is often called a storyteller as she intentionally talks about the foods grown and produced in NC for using in her three restaurants; The Chef and the Farmer, The Boiler Room, and Benny's Big Time Pizzeria.
