Description
A supremely delightful tiny work of art! This "Lion and Lamb" (and cardinal) artwork is created through the German art form of Scherenschnitte or scissors cutting. Each scherenschnitte begins with a drawing. The artist then carefully cuts around each detail in the drawing. The piece is then painted, placed against a black background and framed.
This piece is created by artist Claudia Hopf. Claudia became interested in the craft of Scherenschnitte when she was in Pennsylvania where her husband was director of the Pennsylvania Farm Museum. She became so intrigued with a Scherenschnitte birth certificate that came to the museum, that she learned the skill and has devoted herself to the art full time since 1967. Hopf has published four books on Scherenschnitte, two of them pattern books. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and shows from the East coast to California. Her work hangs in the Library of Congress and is represented in collections in France, Germany, Switzerland, Africa, England, Australia, and Canada.
In Claudia Hopf’s work she designs, draws, and paints each piece. Her son, Perry Hopf does the cutting for her with surgical scissors. Perry also designs and creates the elaborately decorated frames to coordinate with each piece.
The size of this piece means it could fit anywhere-- on a shelf, mantle, desk, or any little nook.
Details: 7 7/8" x 3 3/4" framed. Image measures 2 3/4" x 1 3/4".
