Description
LIVE AUCTION ITEM
Lou didn’t realize that when he took a spring-pole lathe ale bowl turning class at North House in 2006 that he would be embarking on an artistic journey that would define his retirement. In the year’s following that experience, he has become a highly sought after turner whose bowls have even appeared before the king and queen of Sweden.
This bowl was turned on a power lathe carved using hand held tools from a very large American elm burl. The bowl presented in this auction is the best of the lot - displaying bird’s eye, lace, and curl figuring. This striking grain figuring covers almost the entire bowl giving a spectacular effect, especially combined with the complete natural bark edge. This bowl was finished with a food safe finish, but it is best to display it as an artistic piece. This bowl would be a great centerpiece for a large table.
The bowl measures 18” diameter by 4” deep. The winner of this piece will also have the opportunity to visit Lou’s home studio to see the how these incredible bowls are made.
