Description
Watercolor
23" x 31" x 1"
"Match Me if You Can" began by pouring sheer layers of diluted watercolor paint instead of using traditional methods of paint application. After the first pour was thoroughly dried, some areas were masked off to maintain lighter colors, and stronger color was used on successive pours. The layers of paint produce luminous color which would be hard to obtain using a brush, although a brush was used for some of the details and darkest areas. The plant is a croton, and because it has vibrantly colored leaves with interesting patterns, it seemed a natural subject for a poured painting.
Robin Beckwith holds a BFA in painting from the RISD and has taken numerous workshops over the years. She has recently exhibited her work at North Shore Arts Association in Gloucester, MA, the Wickford Arts Association, the South County Arts Association, the Warwick Center for the Arts, and the Art League of RI Elected Members Show. In May, Robin had a retrospective in the art gallery at Central Congregational Church in Providence.
