Description

Small antique Tibetan chod drum with long tassel tail. The chod drum is a sacred two sided drum that is considered an essential support for Tibetan Buddhist ritual, such as being used for the offering of music in sadhana practice. The sound of the damaru is viewed as a symbol of emptiness or shunyata. The two drums joined together represents relative and ultimate Bodhicitta. The shape of the damaru has its roots in ancient India -- where one side of the drum is seen to represent the male energy or Lingam, and the other represents the Yoni or female creativity. The creation of the world thus begins when the lingam and yoni meet at the mid-point of the drum.

Drum measures 4 3/4 inches x 5 inches and 2 3/4 inches wide. Tassel tail measures approx. 18 1/2 inches.
