Over the last 5 years, Campowerment has called Malibu’s Camp Gindling Hilltop home. We held 16 retreats there, empowering nearly 2,000 people to transform their lives.
When we headed up to Malibu on Thurs, Nov 9 to prepare for Campowerment’s* 23rd women’s empowerment retreat, at Camp Hilltop, we could never have known the deadly and historic Woolsey Fire was just hours away from destroying our beloved camp.
We are so lucky to have been forced to evacuate before the rest of our 160 Campers + staff were set to arrive the following day.
In this fire, we lost Camp Hilltop (a sacred place for so many communities that mean as much to their people as ours does to ours), as well as our company’s material possessions. And we are now learning that our insurance policy for our belongings…well, frankly, it sucks.**
