Description
The 5 colones note is perhaps one of the most picturesque bills that are part of the collection of numismatics in Costa Rica. Back in the late 1960s at least two different versions of bills of 5 colones were in circulation, one stood out for having the image of the ruler Braulio Carrillo Colima, which incidentally had in two types of photographs, and the other was the ticket that was issued by first time on October 2, 1968, in the administration of President José Joaquín Trejos Fernández, which contains a famous painting that is still in the national Theatre and is called the “allegory of coffee and bananas” by the Italian painter Aleardo Villa .
this bill is no longer in circulation...Dating back to 1991---shortly after 5 Colones paper money changed into steel coins.
