KAREN CHIN

ARTIST STATEMENT

My painting style is an evolution of abstract work that is influenced by my Asian background.  Painting is an outlet to communicate and discover, as well as a way to escape into a world without limitations, judgment or contradictions.

I begin most paintings without a preconceived idea - placing a paintbrush or what ever tool in hand begins another journey full of surprises.  Each creation is a synthesis of the cultural influences that have shaped my own consciousness.  I paint predominantly women – intriguing and sensual, mysterious and graceful, but also strong and vulnerable.  My paintings are intended to convey a simple message of respect for life and the human spirit and form.

I express my emotions into colors and shapes; the textures and colors are meant to evoke an emotional and sensual quality.  Each painting takes me through a journey and a process - effortlessly in most cases and naturally.  I am free to express without outside interruptions or judgments.
