Ideal for Elementary school age children

For over a decade, Steps Tutoring has been offering private lessons to
children attending the best public and private schools in the city. Our programs are directed by developmental psychologist Irene Daria, Ph.D, who is a testing expert and a reading and math specialist. Lessons can be held in our Union Square office or in your home.

Steps to Reading -Our main focus is on phonics. Kids taking lessons with us learn to read so quickly, and so well, that the discriminating moms on Urban Baby called us “the best phonics program in the city,” and actress Kate Winslet said, “Irene is remarkable at teaching children how to read. I feel so fortunate that I
discovered her for my children.”

Steps to Math - We start out with the TERC, or Investigations, curriculum, 
and then move on to traditional math and the multi-step word problems that are
such a big part of the Common Core state tests.

Steps to Grammar and Writing - Kids learn punctuation rules and how to write
well. Before becoming a psychologist, Irene was a reporter and editor in leading magazines, an author of three books, and contributing writer of articles to major publications. Your child will learn how to write well with us.

Third and Fourth Grade and Middle School Admission Test Prep - 
Ninety-eight percent of our students scored Level 4 or high Level 3 on the
Common Core state tests and got into their first choice of public and private
middle schools. That’s because we assess their skills and tailor an individualized
program just for them using a combination of our proprietary curriculum, practice
worksheets, and the administration of practice tests to help students meet that goal.
