Jesse Willenbring’s graphic abstractions at once challenge and pay tribute to their art historical predecessors, retooling traditional modern imagery and imbuing it with a keen sense of contemporaneity. There is a somewhat musical quality to Willenbring’s work, with its pleasing chromatic interplay and its impression of cool, swift movement. In “Homer Advert Layout #7,” green and yellow frond-like forms spiral throughout, mingling with subtle pink-and-blue streaks that appear to push them each, like gentle gusts of wind.
