Description

Bit Space is a maker lab for kids and teens where they can learn how to use hand tools, power tools, computer controlled tools (3D printer, laser cutter, CNC milling machine), electronics, circuits,  computer modeling & design, new media, and video game design. We offer after-school programs,  workshops, day-off camps, birthday parties, and summer camps. We have two locations in Lincoln Square and Wilmette.

Each membership entitles one child (9 years old or older) to unlimited hours of Open Shop time per month, as well as a 10% discount on most Bit Space offerings. Open Shop is best described by the maker's mantra: "design - build - iterate." Each participant receives regular guidance on his/her project(s) from one of our Guides, as well as the training, time, space, and tools necessary to complete that project. Guides work with each student to set achievable goals and benchmarks to keep the project(s) moving towards a realistic end  given each student’s skills and interests. Attendance is limited to ensure a better-than-10-to-1 ratio of students to Guides.
